Abstract
Objective : Various studies on the impact of smoking on male fertility for several years show a decline in semen quality among smokers. The aim of our study is to assess the impact of smoking on semen quality. Patients and methods : This is a retrospective analysis on the impact of smoking on semen parameters and spermatozoa morphology. Two groups of patients were studied : Group A (n = 159) of smoking patients and group B (n = 85) of non smoking patients. 244 sperm analysis were selected in couples consulting for the first time in our IVF center. Results : Our results show a statistically significant decrease in the concentration, mobility and typical forms in the smoking group compared with the non smoking group. Moreover, the vitality is also reduced in the smoking group but not statistically significant. Conclusion : This study highlights the real danger of smoking male fertility. Although the significant association between smoking and sub fertility is not quite out. A patient education is essential before treatment in medically assisted.
