Abstract

Dyslipidemia is a prominent feature of chronic renal failure (CRF) and a major risk factor for arterosclerosis and the progression of renal disease. The aim of this study was to determinate plasma lipids profile of CRF in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) in order to improve renal patient’s monitoring. The results obtain with 70 CRF patients not on haemodialysis versus 74 healthy controls showed a significative high level of total cholesterol (p< 10-3), LDL (p< 10-3), triglycerid (p< 10-5) , non HDL cholesterol (p< 10-3) and atherogenic indice (p< 10-5) . The atherogenic risk is increased in end stage renal failure. The results are interesting for renal patients monitoring in the first new haemodialysis unit of University Hospital Center of Ouagadougou because it’s well known that long term haemodialysis increase lipid abnormalities.
