Abstract

The intracellular biotransformation of XTT into Formazan has been applied to assess the cytotoxic activity of anticancer drugs, mainly derivatives of trichloro-methyl-ethanol, on murine leukemia L1210 cells in vitro. The concentration that inhibits the growth of 50% of the cultured cells is determined for each product, and the cytotoxicity is compared to that of Cisplatin (CDDP). This colorimetric technique using a tetrazolium salt has its advantages but must be employed with certain precautions.
