Abstract
Micropipettes are instruments used for transferring a predetermined volume of liquid from one container to another. They are an integral part of the analytical chain in a clinical biology laboratory and are at the forefront of piston and/or plunger volumetric instruments (IVAP) alongside dispensers, dilutors, and displacement burettes. Their integration into the overall quality assurance program contributes to better precision and accuracy of results. Simple periodic and continuous actions of calibration and maintenance of these instruments improve tolerance performance and increase their longevity. The increasing automation of laboratories should never overlook the various controls and preventive and corrective maintenance of micropipettes.
